Optimize Your Experience

8 Steps on How to Get the Best Service

 1. Simplify Billing

Save time, avoid service disruption, and never get late fees with ACH payment

Download our ACH form and email it over with a picture of a voided check, or call us to set it up over the phone.

Get your invoice in your inbox

We automatically email invoices on the 20th of each month. Save this email address to ensure your trash bill doesn’t go to your trash folder: quickbooks@notification.intuit.com.

2. Recycle Right

Empty, Clean & Dry

Food residue & liquid is fine, as long as there’s not enough to bite or drink from.

Don’t Bag Recyclables

Unless it’s an EnergyBag, no plastic bags in our carts.

Not All Plastics are the Same

  • Plastic Containers (aka things that hold food or liquid) = Recyclable

  • Soft & Flimsy Plastics = EnergyBag or Landfill

When In Doubt, Throw It Out

The recycling stream is sensitive, so if you don’t know, it’s better to landfill than “wish cycle.”

Got Excess Cardboard?

You can always drop it off at a free recycling site.

3. Compost Correctly

Most waste hauling companies are known for landfilling yard material. But for most of our routes, we actually compost it. So if you use our yard waste/material service, here’s how to get your yard material composted.

Yard Material Only

Please, no plastic bags or plastic, glass, and metal of any kind.

No Plastic Bags or Glass

Just had to say it again.

Don’t Let Grass Get Stuck

A common call we get is about grass sticking to the bottom of the cart after service. A proactive way to get around this is to put cardboard or folded yard waste bags at the bottom of your cart.

  4. Avoid Overflow

Overflowing carts might get skipped

If you have more material than you can fit into your cart, either save it for next time or add another cart to your service.

Extra monthly fee for carts

Varies depending on a few factors, but for most:

  • Landfill = $14.50

  • Recycling = $9.25

  • Yard = $6

 5. Placing Carts

Place Carts at the Curb 3 Feet Apart

We use automated trucks, so in order to ensure they are emptied, please place them at the curb with the front of the cart facing the street.

6. Know Holidays

1-day delay with weekday holidays

If one of our observed holidays happens during a weekday, all pickups are pushed back by a day for the remainder of the week, then reset after the following weekend.

Example

With Thanksgiving on a Thursday, Thursday’s normal pickup happens on a Friday, Friday’s on a Saturday, then everything resets after the weekend.

7. Use Discount

No other hauler offers this

Recycling customers can opt into First Star’s Curbside Rewards program that gives you discounts to local businesses. And all Gretna Sanitation customers get 20% off the soil & mulch you helped to create.

 8. Stay Informed
